If the person has coeliac disease, it would definitely benefit them as gluten irritates their small intestine, causing a lot of discomfort and potential health issues for people with this condition. For people who don’t have coeliac disease, a gluten-free diet doesn’t seem to improve the risk for heart disease.

For a person who is coeliac or sensitive to gluten the long term effect is continued health and less illness due to their coeliac disease. For a person who is not coeliac, I don’t think there would be much effect, as long as they are making up for the nutrients lost due to removing a major group of foods from their diet. We all need a varied diet for optimum health, if a person starts excluding a major group of foods from their diet they need to talk to their doctor or a dietitian to advise them so the don’t become deficient in some nutrients.
